Picchetti stated that a rate hike would not resolve issues such as the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz or El Ni\u00f1o, but could cause a disorderly slowdown in economic activity. The Central Bank seeks to maintain its freedom of action by avoiding explicit signals about the next steps in interest rate policy.<\/p>\n
U.S. stock markets are trading mixed, influenced by economic data and technology stocks. Micron Technology boosted the chip sector after reporting better-than-expected results, reigniting optimism about demand for artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n
However, stocks such as Apple and Microsoft fell following announcements of price increases for their products. The PCE price index, the Federal Reserve\u2019s primary measure of inflation, rose 0.4% in May, in line with expectations, but still above the 2% target.<\/p>\n
The commercial dollar is trading lower this Thursday, quoted at R$ 5.18, in an attempt to break a streak of gains. Interest rate futures are also falling, reflecting the perception that the Central Bank does not intend to extend the monetary policy horizon and the release of more favorable inflation data.<\/p>\n
The DI rate for January 2028, for example, fell to 14.18%, down 14 basis points from the previous session's closing rate. At the long end of the curve, the rate for January 2035 was stable at 14.21%.<\/p>\n
Braskem (BRKM5) plummeted more than 9% after seeking a preliminary injunction against creditors and filing an urgent motion. The company is also considering protective measures abroad. Petrobras (PETR4) plans to import diesel in July, following a period without foreign purchases, and its production is approaching 3 million barrels per day.<\/p>\n
The retail sector also saw some movement, with stocks such as Lojas Renner (LREN3) and Magazine Luiza (MGLU3) trading higher.
